Prisca in Malawi
The community mocked baby Prisca and her family when she was born very small and with a deformity in her feet. Her mother, Annie, wasn’t even able to visit friends because of the torment she received, becoming a prisoner in her own home.
Luckily, a parent who’d walked the same road advised Prisca’s parents on where to go for treatment. That’s how they ended up at a Hope Walks partner clinic in their home country of Malawi. The counseling from their parent advisor gave them hope in the midst of overwhelming circumstances.
The bracing stage, or “maintenance stage,” brought the family significant joy: they could clearly see Prisca’s tremendous improvement, and the financial stress of weekly transportation ceased. When they learned the treatment was free, they were surprised and responded with gratitude.
“We are so grateful that Prisca is doing well,” her parents said. “We thank Hope Walks for giving us such an opportunity to change our lives for the better. May this, which has been done for us, be done for many others.”
After Prisca’s recovery, people in the community didn’t even recognize her as the same child with the deformity. That’s the transformative power of healing from clubfoot.
