Luena in Mozambique
When Luena was born in Mozambique with clubfoot, her family immediately recognized the condition. Years earlier, one of Luena’s aunts had also been born with clubfoot—but at a time when treatment simply wasn’t available. She grew up living with the disability, and the family feared Luena might face the same future.
Everything changed when a nurse gently explained that clubfoot could be corrected and quickly referred Luena to Hope Walks for treatment. For her mother, that conversation replaced fear with hope.
The early weeks weren’t easy. Seeing her tiny daughter in casts was heartbreaking, and the frequent clinic visits were exhausting. But each appointment brought encouragement. Other mothers shared their own journeys, and watching children complete treatment and walk normally gave Luena’s family confidence that healing was possible for their daughter too. Today, Luena’s mother is filled with gratitude—not only for her own daughter, but for what this treatment means for future generations.
“It brings me great joy to know that this treatment is now available because, in the past, many people in our community did not have this opportunity,” she says.
