In the mountainous city of the Oromia region, a brave family embarked on a journey that would change their lives forever. Their second child was born with clubfoot, a condition that left them heartbroken and unsure of what to do. The child’s father worked as a private driver, while the mother served in a government organization. Together, they faced the challenge head-on, proving the power of love and resilience.
Despite the distance and lack of adequate transport services, these parents made the journey every week from their remote village to the clinic, crossing many miles with unwavering determination. They stood firm in their decision to seek treatment for their child, even as other family members tried to convince them not to go. The community around them claimed that the condition was due to a lack of sunlight or even a curse. But the parents refused to be swayed by fear or superstition.
When they first discovered their child’s condition, the mother wept endlessly, and the family was in shock. They felt lost, with no clue about clubfoot or Hope Walks. They took their baby to a private clinic, where a doctor referred them to Abet Hospital. That decision changed everything.
The road to recovery was challenging. The tenotomy day was the hardest; their baby cried so much it broke their hearts. Yet, they persisted, holding on to hope. After the third cast was removed, they saw their child’s foot begin to straighten – an incredible moment that filled them with renewed faith and joy. The mother said, “I became more confident that my baby’s feet would heal soon.”
The counseling services provided by Hope Walks gave them knowledge, strength, and healing from their heartbreak. “May God bless them for giving us this treatment for free,” she said with gratitude.
Today, they are overjoyed and filled with hope. “We are now happy. Our baby has a bright future; he can run and play football with his friends. We give praise to God. Bless you all.”
Their story is a beautiful example of Hope Walks, a family’s strength, resilience, and unyielding belief in a better future for their child.
