Hayder in Mozambique

Hayder’s journey began with challenges from the moment he was born. After a difficult labor and emergency cesarean at Maputo Central Hospital, his parents, Silvia and Mahando, were devastated to learn that their son had inhaled impurities, affecting his breathing and brain function. Adding to their heartbreak, Hayder was diagnosed with clubfoot and placed in the NICU for two weeks.

As first-time parents, Silvia and Mahando were overwhelmed. The plaster phase of treatment was particularly painful—Hayder’s constant crying made Silvia question if she could endure it. Yet, the counseling and support from Hope Walks staff gave them strength. Their parent advisor’s patience and clear explanations transformed their doubts into determination.

Today, Hayder’s parents are filled with gratitude. Silvia shares, “Tears of joy fall as I say this—meeting you changed my life. Thank you for bringing joy back to families. May God bless you all.”

From disbelief to advocacy, Hayder’s parents now share their experience with other families facing similar challenges. Their story is a testament to the power of love and perseverance and to the life-changing impact of Hope Walks, made possible by donors who bring hope to children’s lives every day.
