Alliana in Zambia
When Alliana was born with clubfoot, her community’s awareness and support through every phase of treatment influenced her journey—and showed how every gift can change a life.
A trained midwife recognized Alliana’s clubfoot at birth, allowing the family to bring Alliana to a clinic at less than two weeks old. Not only did medical staff encourage the family, but a neighbor whose child also had clubfoot recommended that they take Alliana for treatment as soon as possible. The community around Alliana redirected her path, giving her access to effective, life-changing treatment.
Once the family began the casting stage, the weekly clinic visits became a challenge for her mother, Emely, because she prioritized her child’s health and stepped back from her business. This added to their financial struggles. What eased this trying time for the family was Hope Walks’ transportation support.
Despite the struggles the family faced, they were committed to getting Alliana the treatment she needed, and the support from Hope Walks donors ensured that financial burdens would not prevent their access to care.
Even with the multifaceted support around her, Emely struggled to believe that Alliana’s clubfoot would ever be healed. After Alliana finished casting and had a tenotomy, Emely had renewed confidence that the treatments will transform her daughter’s life.
“I have seen God’s power at work in my child,” Emely said. “I never had hope that my child would one day be able to walk like all normal children.”
Every part of the journey to hope—donors, neighbors, and staff—led Alliana to a brighter future, where she can be free from clubfoot.
