Riady in Mozambique

When Ana’s newborn son was diagnosed with clubfoot, she received the news calmly. Through a tumultuous pregnancy, she had been praying for her son, Riady, to be born alive. In her eyes, she’d been given a miracle.

In Ana’s seventh month of pregnancy, complications led to an emergency cesarean section. Due to low birth weight, Riady remained in the hospital for a week.

Both of Riady’s parents worked in health care in Mozambique—Ana was a nurse, and his father, Alberto, was a general practitioner. Alberto knew clubfoot was treatable, so he contacted a local Hope Walks partner clinic, hoping God would work a second miracle in his son’s life.

Baby Riady began treatment as soon as he was discharged from the hospital. The clubfoot treatment staff—including the family’s parent advisor—welcomed them warmly. And very soon, the family started seeing visible progress in Riady’s tiny feet. Ana celebrated simple joys along the way—like finally being able to bathe Riady without restrictions during the brace stage.

“The counseling strengthened our faith and helped us understand that having a child with this deformity can happen to anyone or in any family—and that it is not our fault,” the family shared.

Alberto intentionally attended every appointment and has remained deeply sensitive to clubfoot in his professional activities. Both he and Ana are committed to raising awareness about clubfoot in their community, ensuring all children have access to life-changing treatment.
