Samuel in Mozambique

When Marta first held her newborn son, Samuel, her joy was quickly replaced by heartbreak. A nurse gently told her that Samuel had been born with a foot deformity. Tears streamed down her face as she cried out to God, “Why is this happening to me?” Her thoughts turned to Samuel’s aunt—his father’s sister—who still lives with an untreated clubfoot. Would Samuel face the same fate?

Marta’s husband, a park ranger in Gorongosa, was devastated when he heard the news but couldn’t leave work right away. A month later, Marta returned to the clinic where Samuel was born and received the first cast. But the tiny baby cried nonstop, and Marta and her husband were filled with worry. When they finally made it to the clubfoot clinic, everything changed. They learned treatment was free. They saw hope.

Each cast brought more healing. And when the second one was removed, they could hardly believe their eyes—Samuel’s feet were already straighter. Their hearts swelled with joy and confidence.

“God has been my refuge and strong tower,” Marta said. “You heard my cry and responded by healing my son.”

Today, thanks to their faith, perseverance, and the support of the Hope Walks team, Samuel’s future looks bright. His parents cling to the dream of watching him run free. And with each step, that dream gets closer to reality.
