About the Country

Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa. Situated on a large plateau, its geography is largely savanna, with a few sparse forests to the south. The country was once a French colony and gained its independence in 1960. The country’s name was adopted in 1984 and means “Land of the Incorruptible People.”

Burkina Faso has an unemployment rate of around 77%. There are strong familial connections amongst the people. Hospitality and politeness are very important to the culture in Burkina Faso. A large majority of the population are illiterate, so sharing the gospel with these individuals can be especially difficult. Despite this, the church is growing and there is an opportunity for more growth in the future.

Prayer Needs

Please keep this nation in your prayers as many people in Burkina Faso speak languages that the Bible has yet to be translated into. We pray that these people would have open hearts and minds to the gospel, and that they would seek God despite this. We, also, pray for our staff in Burkina Faso, as well as the families they interact with, for safety and provision.
