About the Country
Benin, like many African nations, was once a European colony. In 1960, it gained its independence from France but then was ruled by a Marxist-Leninist government until 1989. Today, Benin is one of the continent’s most stable democracies. Despite this, poverty is rampant and barely one-third of the population is literate, making spreading the gospel very difficult.
In the past 30 years, the Church in Benin has increased from 50,000 to 770,000. Even though Christianity has quickly spread, many believers still practice non-Christian traditions that are common throughout many African cultures, such as voodoo.
Prayer Needs
Please pray for trained pastors to guide the people of Benin in the right direction. Pray for the children and families we serve in this nation, and that more children would be able to receive treatment for their clubfoot.
