Communication Intern

SUMMARY

The communication intern will assist with a number of projects related to producing content to feed Hope Walks’ social media, blogs and other channels. The position ideally will be based in the US office currently located in Dillsburg, PA, but remote options will also be considered.

The unpaid internship is will focus heavily on social media. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of what works in social media and how to take advantage of it to advance the mission of Hope Walks.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Produce content on a weekly basis that will be used in various channels of communication, including web, blogs, social media, email  and print
  • Special event support for in-person/remote gala and Hope Hikes
  • Create weekly and monthly social media schedules with both written and visual content
  • Write  two-three patient stories each week for use on website blog

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be working toward a degree in communication, marketing, journalism, English or other related fields.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style preferred
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, tactics and strategies
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills – including the ability to clearly convey and incite passion
  • Some graphic design experience and skills a plus but not required (Adobe Creative Suite and Canva)
  • Strong organizational skills, time management
  • Personal faith in Christ and commitment to the mission of Hope Walks

Grants Coordinator - Global Programs
Position Title:   Grants Coordinator –  Global Programs
Location:  Based in one of the country program offices of Hope Walks
Reports to:   Grants Manager
Supervises:   n/a
Travel:   Up to 2  international trips per year

SUMMARY

Hope Walks seeks a Grants Coordinator to support our global programs by identifying, securing, and managing program funding to expand our clubfoot treatment initiatives. This role involves researching potential funders, developing relationships with partners, writing compelling proposals, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with partner requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong proposal writing and budgeting skills, experience in grant reporting, and a deep commitment to Hope Walks’ mission. This position requires international travel to Hope Walks programs to monitor the implementation of funded activities and outputs, collaborate with teams, and gather program insights.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Research & Identification

  • Liaise with program staff to determine priority funding needs for each program.
  • Research and identify support opportunities, assessing the potential partners and opportunities for alignment with Hope Walks’ mission and program priority needs.
  • Assist in maintaining a database of prospective funders and action plans for funders. 

Proposal Development & Submission

  • Collaborate with program staff to develop and submit strong proposals, concept notes, letters of inquiry, and applications.
  • Effectively leverage AI to generate proposal drafts, saving time while improving accuracy and creativity.
  • Develop project grant budgets, coordinating funding needs with the programs and leadership teams.

Grant Compliance, Reporting, & Financial Management

  • Prepare program performance and financial reports with the support of the program staff that demonstrate transparency and responsible stewardship.
  • Coordinate compliance of grant-funded projects to ensure awards’ expectations are met.
  • Track applications, awards, and funding revenue in Hope Walks CRM (Virtuous CRM) and analyze data to increase the grants team’s effectiveness.

Program Information Collection & Dissemination

  • Understand the organization’s monitoring and evaluation strategy and routinely stay informed of the Key Performance Indicators that measure each program’s outcomes.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a common language repository for proposals and partner communication. 
  • Assist in refining Hope Walks’ funding procedures and ensure programs follow the identified processes.
  • Manage proposal submission and reporting deadlines, remaining compliant with partners’ requirements.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in writing, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of grants management or professional writing experience.
  • Personal faith in Christ and commitment to the mission of Hope Walks.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to meet strict project timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve optimal results while collaborating with various teams across the organization.
  • Experience working with programs in Africa or a similar international development setting is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and other grant research tools like Instrumentl or Foundation Center.
  • Experience with Virtuous CRM is preferred.
  • Excels at independent problem solving.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Human Resources Program Officer
Position Title:   Human Resources Program Officer
Location:  Addis Ababa – Hope Walks Ethiopia Office

SUMMARY

The Human Resources (HR) Program Officer will provide oversight and support to the Hope Walks country programs in the area of human resources to ensure all staff are well supported and proper practices are implemented. The HR Program Officer will also dedicate a significant amount of time to provide more direct management of human resources for the Ethiopia program due to it being the largest program in the Hope Walks network. In Ethiopia, the HR Program Officer will oversee all human resources functions, including but not limited to recruitment, staff retention and satisfaction, talent management, employee benefits, and staff contract management.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The position will support the Global Program Leadership Team and Program Managers in their oversight of all human resources-related matters in their assigned programs. 
  • Develop an orientation program for new staff to provide a consistent onboarding experience across all Hope Walks programs and coordinate this orientation for each new staff.
  • Support country program external audits by providing HR-related documents upon request.
  • Properly organize and manage all reports and documents in Hope Walks’ shared Google Drive folders, following Hope Walks’ naming conventions and organizing practices. 
  • Assist with the annual budget process in the preparation of staff salaries and costs, ensuring that all country programs are following a standard format. 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.  
  • Monitors the Hope Walks programs’ overall compliance with local laws and regulations affecting the human resources management functions.
  • Recommends and implements policies and procedures in response to changing labor laws and regulations, as well as changing dynamics within and needs of the programs.     
  • Develops and executes plans for strategic communication of policies and procedures.
  • Support the organization’s performance management process to ensure all staff receive a timely appraisal, the process is thoroughly completed and beneficial for staff development, and documents are properly filed.
  • Assess and establish solutions for staff training and professional development needs.  
  • Complete exit interviews and make recommendations to the Hope Walks Leadership Team on possible improvements.
  • Specifically for the Ethiopia program, this position will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing the HR program as part of program management that supports the Hope Walks Ethiopia staff through the following ways:
  • Manage the program’s staff benefit programs, which includes ensuring that the benefits remain comprehensive yet cost-effective.
      • Manage the staff compensation practices to ensure Hope Walks Ethiopia has fair salaries based on labor market data.  
      • Monitor HR initiatives effectiveness, providing data-driven insights , and ensuring  alignment with practices in human resources management. 
      • Ensure that staff compensation and the payroll process are in compliance with Ethiopian labor law and best practices. 
      • Serve as a member of the program’s Senior Leadership Team. 
      • Consult with the program’s senior leadership team on staff relations issues, including progressive discipline up to and including termination of employment. Coach Senior senior Team in effective techniques and strategies for handling a variety of situations.
      • Consult with Senior Leadership Team members on issues related to the utilization of human resources to achieve organizational objectives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A Master’s or bachelor’s degree in human resource management or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in a similar role with an international NGO or with a ministry is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated commitment and willingness to work in accordance with the Hope Walks core values
  • Good interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work semi-independently and solve problems.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and strong communication skills in Amharic and English.
  • Excellent knowledge of common technology: Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Zoom.
  • Strong knowledge of both global and Ethiopian HR practices, employment laws, and labor regulations.
  • Preferred Certification in Human Resources Management (i.e. PHR, SPHR, GPHR)
